The national plan aims to change the situation with gender imbalance
Baku / 19.10.18 / Turan: An unwritten tradition that it is better to have a son, than a daughter led to a gender imbalance in Azerbaijan. This opinion was expressed during the presentation of the draft National Action Plan to curb gender-based sex selection on Friday.
Modern technologies allow parents to know in advance the sex of the fetus, stimulating to terminate the pregnancy in case the future child is a girl. This trend has already led to unfavorable results and may even worsen. Participants of the event expressed the hope that the implementation of the National Action Plan will help to change a similar situation in Azerbaijan. However, the details of this plan are still unknown to the general public. -02D-
