The trial in the case of the PFPA activist Orhan Bakhishly
Baku / 14.08.18 / Turan: Preparatory meeting on the case of Orhan Bakhyshly, the youth activist of the Popular Front Party took place in the Baku Serious Crimes Court.. The case is considered by the judiciary under the chairmanship of the judge Mahmoud Agalarov.
The trial actually was half-closed. Despite the fact that dozens of people came to court, no one, including the activist's parents, was allowed into the hall. It became known to Turan from the representatives of the defense, during the trial a lawyer Elchin Sadigov petitioned for the termination of the criminal case and change of the preventive measure.
The lawyer also pointed out that the witnesses involved in the case themselves have criminal convictions for drug offenses. They passed as witnesses in other criminal cases.
However, the court rejected all applications. Judicial hearings on the merits are scheduled for August 24.
Bakhyshly was detained on May 6. According to the investigation, he was detained with six gram of heroine. The activist rejected the accusations and said that the police officers had planted drugs to him. PFPA believes that Bakhyshly is persecuted for political reasons.
A few days before the arrest, on May 3, at the event dedicated to World Press Freedom Day, at the grave of journalist Elmar Huseynov, Bakhyshly accused the authorities of his death. -06D--
