The visit to Azerbaijan Iranian Ayatollah Nuri Hamadani, who during four days, visited a number of cities of Azerbaijan, held meetings with the faithful. During the meeting with Sheikh Pashazade on September 1 Hamadani noted that Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan, and wished him a speedy liberation from occupation.
Pashazade, in turn, noted that this is the first visit of such a high religious figure in Azerbaijan.
Hamadani also noted that the priority of the Islamic world is the unity of Muslims. On 2 September Hamadani visited the city of Shamakhi, where he attended the mosque "Juma", the oldest in the South Caucasus and the Middle East; it was built in the year 743. This mosque has been completely destroyed during the earthquake in 1859 and 1902.
