Trial in the case of Intigam Aliyev
At the court hearing in the case of Intigam Aliyev, the head of the Legal Enlightenment Society (LES), spoke a witness Gyulyana Habibova. She worked as a bookkeeper in the LES for three months. Habibova said that in the LES she worked in accordance with the requirements of legislation, and financial reporting send herself. After this, the prosecutor requested to bring as witnesses the lawyers Anar Gasimli, Alaif Hasanov, Adil Ismailov and Fariz Namazly. These lawyers defended Aliyev, and then all of them in one day were distanced and brought in as witnesses. The judge Rasim Sadikhov however, rejected the petition. Further protection applied for the summons as additional witnesses four staff of the International Bank of Azerbaijan who transfered funds of the LES to other accounts on the proposal of the former accountant of the LES, Gulshan Orujova.
The need to summon the bank employee is because the lawyers of protection are convinced that Aliyev’s signature in payment orders were forged. The court granted the motion.
The victim, a former lawyer of the LES, Sadiq Bagirov, petitioned for an expert handwriting analysis.
"Intigam Aliyev said that he did not sign the payment orders. Let the expert check it, and if this is not so, then let they withdraw from me the victim status," Bagirov said. The defense did not mind, because previously petitioned for examination. However, the court dismissed the petition. The next meeting is scheduled for 14:00 on April 14.
** Intigam Aliyev was arrested on 8 August, 2014 on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. Subsequently, he was also accused of embezzling and forgery. Amnesty International recognized him as a “prisoner of conscience.”- 06C-
