Market trip - know-how in the style of Khrushchev
Baku/23.08.19/Turan: Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmedov, accompanied by an army of pro-government press, unexpectedly raided the capital markets. Imitating either Internet bloggers or trading forwarders, he wisely asked the same question on every corner: how much does it cost? No, expensive. He walked this way for half an hour.
Spectators for a long time could not understand the meaning of what was happening and the purpose of the event itself. However, by the end of the report it became clear that the deputy prime minister himself did not understand this meaning.
Criticizing prices on the market, the deputy head of the government did not explain why prices were high, and did not ask these questions to the minister of agriculture and market administration accompanying him. Ahmedov expressed pleasant surprise that prices there are by 5-6 times lower than in the markets.
What did the deputy prime minister mean by this? Is not there order in the country? Can the traders do what they want? Does not the country have government agricultural policy?
Apparently, Ali Ahmedov was instructed to show that the authorities care about citizens. Well, the Deputy Prime Minister decided that this should be done in this form. Presumably, the effect of the task will be exactly the opposite: people will once again see the level of members of the government, their understanding the laws of a market economy, the results of deep reforms, how it improves the welfare of citizens.
In the era of developed socialism, Soviet leaders periodically made "unexpected" visits to shops and markets, while trade workers were pointedly criticized for deceiving citizens and poor service. Immediately after that, for a short time, something appeared on the shelves, but then disappeared.
Khrushchev was very fond of such trips, when the main food products disappeared in the country.
Heydar Aliyev also visited shopping facilities. It is difficult after this to disagree that the current government sacredly continues the work of its leader. -02B-

In our society, there is no place under the sun for enlightened people. In our society, the place for enlightened individuals is in dark basements. People who ought to spread light are subjected to curses. Their only weapon is their bright ideas. Their only crime relates to daring to uncover truths hidden beneath the societal fog, bringing them to light and acquainting the community with them. Natig Javadli was such a person, a journalist with a historical consciousness and an enlightening activity.

Alaskar Mammadli, a well-known lawyer and media expert, has issued a message to fellow citizens on the occasion of Azerbaijanis' Solidarity Day and New Year from his prison cell, where he has been held since March 2024. Mammadli, arrested on charges of currency smuggling, has denied the accusations, which international media and human rights organizations have labeled politically motivated.
