Turkish Commander Nur Pasha Bust Unveiling at Turkish Embassy in Baku
Unveiling at the territory of the Turkish Embassy in Baku on June 28th, was a bust to Nur Pasha the Commander of Caucasian Islamic Army of Turkey, which on September 15, 1918 liberated the capital of Azerbaijan from the Bolshevik-Armenian armed forces.
The participants of the event noted that liberation of Baku was acknowledgment to Nur Pasha and his army. Although Azerbaijan declared its independence in May 1918, Baku remained outside the control of the national government. The government moved to the capital only after the liberation of the city by the Turkish army.
Despite numerous appeals to the current leadership of the country, a monument to Nur Pasha has not been erected in Baku, and such attitude by the authorities was criticized. Deputy Nizami Jafarov said: "We have repeatedly raised this issue, but no one heard us."
A historian Jamil Hasanli noted that so far the time of liberation of Baku was never filmed, but it needs to be done and brought to future generations.
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Hulusi Kilic, described the erection of the bust a historical event. He called the liberation of Baku, "the greatest victory of the Caucasian Islamic Army." This victory paved the Azerbaijani statehood, and it should not be forgotten. "We have performed our duty setting a bust, if someone feels obliged further, let him install a monument," said a Turkish diplomat. -05С04-
