Associated gas production grows in Kazakhstan
Production of associated gas has been growing in Kazakhstan, a source from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Oil and Gas told Trend.
“During 2013 gas production by the oil and gas extracting companies of the republic totaled 42.3 billion cub.m., five times higher, than gas production in 1991,” the Ministry said.
90% of gas extracted in Kazakhstan is associated gas. 30% of the associated gas is injected back into the bed to maintain the bed pressure. About 15% is used for the technological needs and power generation and small amount is burnt. Tank gas constitutes about 55% of production.
The Ministry reported that extracted resources of natural and (or) associated gas of Kazakhstan (considering discovery of new fields on the Caspian Sea shelf) total 3.8 trillion cub.m., while the geological resources exceed 6-7 trillion cub.m.
Owing to the taken measures, the volume of gas burnt from 2006 to 2013 reduced by 70% and totaled 900 million cub.m. In 2006 the volume of burnt gas totaled 3.1 billion cub.m.—0—

However, this growth is overshadowed by a sharp 6.2% drop in yield, highlighting structural inefficiencies in the sector.
