Azerbaijan First Started to Export Chicken Meat at Record Low Price

Azerbaijan for the first time in its history has exported chicken meat. However, the Republican Society of Poultry Farmers (RSPF) is not aware of this.

According to the State Customs Committee (SCC), in the first nine months of this year Azerbaijan exported fresh and frozen chicken to China (4.5 tons) and Thailand (159.9 tons). The product was exported on average at an unprecedentedly low price - $ 1,000 per ton. China bought chicken almost for free - at $ 20 per ton, or 2 kopecks per kg.

The head of RSPF Aydin Veliyev told Turan the information about the export of chicken meat by Azerbaijan does not correspond to reality. "How could we export chicken at $ 1, given the real cost of $ 3," he asked.

According to Veliyev, broiler enterprises in the country are preparing to export, and for this purpose Azerbaijan has been visited by a group of experts from Russia. However, it is too early to say that Russia will buy Azerbaijani broiler production, said the head of the alliance, which brings together the leading poultry enterprises in the country.

According to estimates of local experts, Azerbaijan can export up to 1,500 tons of chicken meat and semi-finished products monthly.

It should be noted that this year the volume of imports of chicken products into Azerbaijan has sharply increased. In January-September imports of chicken and turkey from Brazil, Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium and China amounted to 6 367.4 tons. This is 2.5 times the volume of imports for the entire 2013.

A kilogram of chicken production this year has been declared by importers at 71.3 cents. Last year this figure was 76.8 cents and in 2012 - 73 cents. On retail the commodity is sold 6 times more expensively.

Consumption of chicken products, according to the State Statistics Committee, is about 100 000 tons per year, or 10.5 kg per capita. It is almost 5 times less than the medical norm of annual consumption in the developed countries, which is 50 kg per capita. For example, in Belarus, per capita consumption is 30 kg, in Kazakhstan - 27 kg, and in Russia - 26 kg. -08A--
