Baku Steel Company Captures Gemi Temiri Dockside
On the night of March 9, representatives of Baku Steel Company sought to capture the former dockside Gemi Temiri. The security service of the State Committee on Property (SCP) protected the site and prevented the attempt to capture it, pushing the Security Service of the steel company away. But in the morning the confrontation resumed. The guard of Gemi Temiri closed the gate and did not let the strangers into the territory, but by noon," the defense was breached." What happens behind this is not clear.
Turan’s attempts to find out the cause of the conflict have failed. The telephone of the press service of the steel company did not respond, and the press-service of SCP reported that the object belongs to a private person.
However, an informed source said that the decision of the dispute continues in the Presidential Administration.
On October 14, 2011 Turan reported that the State Committee on Property secretly sold 99.16% of the shares of Gemi Temiri to an unknown person. The same day, the National Depository Center announced the signing of an agreement for the deposit of the shares and the shareholder register.
Then press secretary of SCP Gulu Khalilov could not comment on what is happening. He also did not have information about the new owners and their investment commitments.
It is noteworthy that 69.16%% of the shares of Gemi Temiri were first offered to the investors in March 2008. However, for unknown reasons, the enterprise was withdrawn from the specialized voucher auctions.
JSC Gemi Temiri was created in 2001 on the basis of the liquidated shipyard of the Fisheries Concern Azerbalig. The company was founded in 1952 and occupies about 3 hectares of land in Zykh (Baku).
LLC Baku Steel Company (BSC), whose identity is kept secret, has recently been aggressive in the metals market in Azerbaijan. The company was founded in 1998 on the basis of the privatized Bakelektroqaynaq (Baku Electric Welding) Union. The company also controls Baku Oxygen Company and Azertekrarqarametal (a scrap ferrous metal company). Last year was marked by several facts of raider attacks by BSC on several small and medium-sized enterprises of metallurgy in Baku.
In December 2012, the management of BSC secretly gained the largest ironworks of Azerboru, which is located in Sumgayit.
The right to transfer enterprises to management in accordance with the rules approved by the head of state in 2008 on the state's share in state owned enterprises belongs to SCP. SCP however did not report on the conclusion of an agreement with BSC on the transfer of Azerboru to its management. Moreover at the end of last year, the Committee announced a tender procedure for a financial advisor on the privatization of the company. The tender was to take place in January, but SCP did not inform of the results. The spokesperson for SCP Gulu Khalilov did not comment on what is happening for Turan. -0 -
