BP presents 11 modern laboratories to Qafqaz university
BP yesterday presented eleven world class laboratories to the Baku-based Qafqaz University. This is part of BP’s commitment to supporting the development of the country’s national experts and workforce potential through training, partnerships and sponsorship of educational initiatives.
Gordon Birrell, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, Deputy Minister of Education of Azerbaijan Ceyhun Bayramov and other officials have attended the laboratory opening ceremony.
To date BP has invested over $2.5 million in the projects that have helped Qafqaz University establish two new departments and 16 laboratories including $1.3 million spent for the laboratories presented today.
Gordon Birrell, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said: “BP sees a need to support national capability development, in particular in the oil and gas related disciplines. We have been working closely with SOCAR and the Ministry of Education to support their efforts to develop world class local experts and workforce who will be involved in our future giant projects and operations in the Caspian.
SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said that the specialists trained by the high educational institutions of the country will find their niche and contribute to development of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry.—0—

Azerbaijani internet service providers Aztelekom and Baktelekom will introduce substantial changes to their pricing structure starting August 15, the companies announced today. Under the new tariffs, the minimum internet speed will rise to 100 Mbit/s, with the cost per Mbit/s decreasing from 0.45 AZN to 0.25 AZN. As a result, monthly charges will be set at 25 AZN for 100 Mbit/s, 30 AZN for 150 Mbit/s, and 36 AZN for 250 Mbit/s.
