Changes in Rules of Carriage of Goods by Natural Persons through Customs Border
Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on July 8 under №267 changes the Rules of preferential and simplified transportation of goods by individuals not for industrial or commercial use across the customs border.
According to the changes (http://goo.gl/fIp54e), these goods, the cost of which shall not exceed $ 1,500, are allowed through customs once in a calendar month. This requirement extends to the international mailings. Previously, temporary restrictions on the carriage of goods by individuals were not provided.
Citizens are allowed to bring to Azerbaijan from abroad not more than 30 kg of food and take out of the country not more than 5 kg of sturgeon meat and 125 grams of caviar once a month. This requirement does not apply to hand luggage transported on aircraft.
The State Customs Committee will keep records of the goods taken.
The government's decision comes into force 30 days after its publication - on August 12.
It should be noted that since last year at customs points Azerbaijan incidents often occur between customs officials and citizens because of different interpretations of the rules of transportation of goods. The citizens living in the border areas purchase food and household goods in Iran, Georgia and Russia for their personal needs and customs officials demand a customs duty for these products. ---08D
