On Monday, in the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku opened the 12th summit of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
The summit involves the presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan, and Turkey's Prime Minister.
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Jordan (have an observer status) are represented by high-level delegation.
The summit was opened by the chairman of the organization, the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He handed over the chairmanship of the organization to the President of Azerbaijan. Next, the heads of delegations spoke.
The summit is expected to adopt a final statement.
* ECO was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the organization was joined by Azerbaijan and five Central Asian republics. Afghanistan also joined it then.
ECO has eight sector technical committees on agriculture, industrial cooperation, transport and communications, infrastructure and public affairs, science, education and culture, energy, and non-proliferation of drugs. -03B-

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has issued a decree introducing changes to the "Regulation on the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan," initially approved by a presidential decree on November 17, 2023. The amendments, guided by Article 109, paragraph 32 of the Constitution of Azerbaijan, involve the removal of specific phrases from various subparagraphs of the regulation.

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved an additional $150 million to expand Azerbaijan’s Employment Support Project (AESP), aimed at aiding vulnerable populations through enhanced self-employment opportunities, the Bank announced.

In anticipation of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), a roundtable titled “Green Construction in Azerbaijan” took place in Baku on July 30. The event brought together foreign construction companies, local industry leaders, and government officials to discuss sustainable zero-carbon building practices.

A new solar power plant with a total capacity of 100 kW was inaugurated on Lake Boyukshor, near the Olympic Stadium in Baku, as part of the "Knowledge Exchange and Technical Assistance for the Development of Floating Solar Panels" project, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
