High-speed trains will run to Sumgait
The Management of the CJSC Azerbaijan Railways plans to upgrade infrastructure to speed up passenger transport between Baku and Sumgait (35 km). In March began capital repair of the overhaul steel highway 63 km. Baku, Khirdalan, Sumgait. Furthermore, additional 1,65 km will be built.
The questions of the project were discussed at a meeting of the Management of "Azerbaijan Railways" with the delegation of the Asian Development Bank, said in a statement on the website of the agency.
During the meeting they discussed various options for improving the railway Baku-Sumgait prepared by consulting firm SYSTRA.
According to the head of JSC Javid Gurbanov, the reconstruction of the Baku-Sumgayit will meet the needs of passengers transport and provide an alternative to road transport.
It is expected to attract the Asian Development Bank to lend to the project, according to the source in this department. In addition to upgrading the road, it is also supposed to purchase new trains.
Currently, trains to Sumgait run a longer path through the Sabunchu-Zabrat-Pirshagi. The route time is not less than 1.5 hours, which is why this form of transport is not popular. -06D-
