Import of Air Conditioners Increased by 13.5%
Production of household air conditioners in Azerbaijan has been suspended and imports of household electrical appliances are growing rapidly.
The private plant for assembly of household machines in the Shamakhi region suspended work last year - then it produced 1,275 air conditioners of the brand Elite. A year earlier, there were produced 9.4 thousand household air conditioners. In the warehouses the company has more than 2,000 of them, the State Statistics Committee said. Another manufacturer, state-run JSC Baku Household Air Conditioners, stopped production several years ago.
According to the State Customs Committee, in 2014, 33.5 thousand various domestic and industrial air conditioners were purchased abroad, which is 13.5% more than in the previous year. An air conditioner (taking into account the more expensive industrial analogues) was issued by the customs at an average of $ 340. It is noteworthy that this is $ 240 lower than in 2013 and $ 380 lower than in 2012. In retail sales in Azerbaijan air conditioners are offered at a price not less than $ 350.
In 2013 and 2014 Azerbaijan also imported spare parts and components of air conditioners worth $ 15 589.3 thousand and $ 23,653.6 thousand.
Note that air conditioners mainly come to Azerbaijan from China. Last year, China exported to our country 18.8 thousand air conditioners. Conditioners of the Chinese assembly are issued on the Azerbaijani border at an average price $ 105. Japan supplied 104 air conditioners at an average price $ 1,964. ----08B

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
