Iran Begins Talks with Azerbaijan on Joint Gas Exports
Iran has announced the start of talks with Azerbaijan on the joint supply of gas to the world markets.
As the news agency ISNA said, "It may mean that Tehran has already returned to the plans to export gas to Europe through the pipeline."
The agency quoted the head of the National Iranian Gas Company Alireza Cameli, on serious negotiations on the issue with the state company of Azerbaijan - SOCAR.
"Tehran and Baku hold talks on joint investments in gas export projects. At the same time, Iran plans to increase gas production in the next three years," he said.
“Huge reserves of natural gas have long allowed Iran to be one of the major exporters of gas to Europe. However, the presence of the international sanctions did not allow doing this,” ISNA said.
In the present circumstances we can talk about serious plans for Iran's participation in joint projects with Azerbaijan. Baku has also made an offer to Iran on cooperation in this field. For example, during a recent visit to Tehran, the Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev invited Iran to use the infrastructure of Azerbaijan to supply oil and gas to world markets, "Iran can use the infrastructure of Azerbaijan, especially the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, for the export of its oil."
In the future Iran could also join the project of Trans-Anatolian pipeline, said Mustafayev. -02D-
