M.Lally: Azerbaijan Already Started to Export Agricultural Products to United States

The US Trade Mission with the participation of officials of the Department of Commerce and representatives of 14 American companies on November 18-20 are being on a visit to Azerbaijan in order to discuss the possibility of the development of relations in the field of commerce and business representatives of government agencies and local entrepreneurship.

In particular, the US delegation includes representatives of the companies Baxter, Bloomberg LP, Capstone Turbine, Dow, Honeywell, Globalise, Langan, Miyamoto International, Osisoft, P & G, Thomson Reuters, Turner International, Wayback's Burgers, WSP / Parsons Brinkherhoff.

The mission is headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Commerce, Michael Lally.

On November 18, US Ambassador Robert Cekuta hosted a reception in honor of the mission.

He noted that the economy is one of the three main areas of cooperation between the US and Azerbaijan.

According to him, the aim of the mission is to assist in building a strong, stable and democratic development of Azerbaijan.

In turn, Lally said that Azerbaijan is an important partner for the US business.

"While working in Baku (in the 1990s, Lally worked at the US Embassy in Azerbaijan), I saw firsthand the great potential for bilateral trade cooperation. The aim of the current trade mission is to open the door to new large export opportunities and attract new investments to Azerbaijan. And it will contribute to further development of close economic relations between the two countries," said Lally.

Answering the question of what changes are needed in the legislation, customs and tax systems to expand trade ties, Lally said that the purpose of the US government and the mission he heads is to assist in the general deepening of trade relations.

"The US wants to increase trade and investment with Azerbaijan. We had fruitful discussions with the government and private companies. The next time we will come to Azerbaijan with representatives not of 15, but 45 companies," said Lally.

In his view, there is great potential for expanding trade cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields.

"I note that Azerbaijan is already exporting agricultural goods to the U.S. Azerbaijan will increase the competitiveness of its economy, increase exports and diversify the economy. This in turn will contribute to the creation of new jobs," said Lally, answering the question from Turan which products from Azerbaijan may take place in the competitive US market. -06D-
