Natig Aliyev: capacity of the Baku-Erzurum gas pipeline will increase to 45 billion cubic meters
Azerbaijan and Georgia plan to implement a project to increase the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline (or the South Caucasus Pipeline, SCP) up to 45 billion cubic meters a year, said Natig Aliyev, Minister of Industry and Energy, RIA Novosti reported.
"Azerbaijan and Georgia have implemented several projects of global significance. This is also a very large, regional project, which we plan to implement together," said Aliyev.
According to him, the gas pipeline will be extended in such a way that after 2017, by the time of receipt of the gas in the second stage of development of the field of "Shah Deniz", its throughput capacity is 25 billion cubic meters, and further volumes will grow to $ 45 billion.
The pipeline, which was put into operation in late 2006, gas flows to western regions of Azerbaijan and Georgia, and in July of 2007 - to Turkey.
The average daily volume of gas exports to SCP in 2011 totaled 12.5 million cubic meters. Its shareholders are: British Petroleum (technical operator) and Statoil (commercial operator) - by 25.5%, SOCAR, NICO, Lukoil, Total - 10%, TPAO - 9%. -0 -
