Number of People Working from Paycheck to Paycheck Decreased by 0.22%
As of April 1, Azerbaijan's economy employs 1,507 thousand people who at the end of a month receive wages. Over the past 12 months, despite government claims on the monthly opening of 10,000 new jobs and reducing the unemployment rate to 5%, the number of employees in the country has decreased by 0.22%.
According to the committee, by the 1st of January this year in Azerbaijan there were 1 516.1 thousand employees, 9.1 thousand more than by April 1.
It is noteworthy that the number of employees in Azerbaijan is stable over the last two years and it has become 27.6 thousand more. According to the same official data, during this period the number of people employed in the economy increased by 144 thousand.
The state is the main employer: as of April 1 the state enterprises and budgetary organizations employed 879.2 thousand people, which is 21.5 thousand or 2.4% less than in April 2014. During this period in the private sector the number of employees increased by 18.1 thousand, or 1.03%. In the last 24 months the private sector gave jobs to 44.8 thousand people. ----08B
