Over 50% of platforms for Shah Deniz-2 project built
AMEC-Tekfen-Azfen alliance has already finished over half of construction of the above water section of two platforms as a part of the Shah Deniz-2 project by order of the Shah Deniz consortium.
Assembly of the upper modules and various welding works are currently in progress, a source from SOCAR said.
According to the schedule, till June 2017 construction works will be completed and they will be shipped to the destination on a barge. The support blocs of the platforms are under construction by BOS Shelf company at SOCAR’s deep-water platforms plant. The installation of the support blocs will begin early next year.
The platform itself will be put into operation in quarter 1, 2018 and in mid-2018 it is planned to extract first gas from the Shah Deniz-2. This will be the first platform in the Caspian Sea, which will not be used for extraction. Because of the sea depth (550 meters), the platform will be installed on the edge of the contract area and gas will be extracted using manifolds – robot-operated extracting devices. The extracted products, such as natural gas, condensate and water, will be delivered to the platform via the underwater pipelines and then will be transported to the coastal terminal after initial refining.
The contract between the operator of the Shah Deniz-2 project – BP and the alliance AMEC-Tekfen-Azfen (UK-Turkey-Azerbaijan) to the amount of $974 million was signed in 2014.—0—
