Transport Minister reports on developments in the transport sector
Over nine months of this year, the state has invested in nearly all areas of the transport sector, said Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov on 10 October at the enlarged meeting of the Cabinet; his family has a large interest in the transport operations in the country.
Since the beginning of the year, 1.7 billion manta have been invested for the development of the transport sector, including modernization of road, rail infrastructure, construction of new metro stations, ferries and the purchase of airliners.
This year Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company purchased two ferries in Croatia. Public JSC "AZAL" delivered to the country two aircrafts "Boeing-767". The Minister also mentioned about a new contract with an American company, but did not specify details.
This year, 400 passenger buses and 1078 cars taxi, including 1,000 "London taxi" have been delivered to the country. A bus complex was put into operation in Yevlakh. The construction of the new bus stations in Ganja, Dashkesan and Horadiz continue.
Through a government grant of China, the country purchased 163 units of municipal engineering.
Regarding the development of road transport infrastructure, the minister said that since the beginning of the year, 362.8 km of roads, including 77.5 km of national importance have been repaired. Eleven bridges have been built.
The Minister gave a detailed information on the development of road infrastructure in the city of Baku, where since the beginning of the year 75 kilometers of road have been repaired,
and five pedestrian crossings have been built.
Local experts indicate a high level of corruption in the government, implemented in the transport sector projects, which are financed by the state budget. Transport Ministry did not disclose the amount of funds to finance specific projects. According to independent estimates, Azerbaijan is a leader in the world in the cost of construction of 1 km of main road, which ranges within 10 million manat. Three or four years ago, the estimated cost to commission was reported to the president, and it was reflected in the official media, now this information is not provided. 08D

Discussions were held in Baku within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, focusing on the "Decarbonization and Climate Adaptation of the Cotton-to-Clothing Value Chain." Among other topics, the state of cotton farming in Azerbaijan was also addressed.

Azerbaijan has attracted significant interest from companies in both developing and developed countries, as well as from state and private sector representatives of at least 10 nations, regarding participation as shareholders in the Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF), which has a total budget of $1 billion. The Azerbaijani government has proposed that the OPEC Fund participate in financing several renewable energy projects, including offshore wind energy development, green energy corridor initiatives, and a 1 GW project planned by SOCAR in partnership with the UAE-based company Masdar.
