Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan Resigns
The Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan on Thursday announced his resignation.
He said he wants to give the President Serzh Sargsyan an opportunity to form a new government and to consolidate the society. ‘I decided to resign and allow the President to form a new government,’ Abrahamyan said at today's session of the Armenian government. He also explained the decision with the need for new approaches to the management of the state and at the same time with his intention to continue to be an active politician and work with members of the new government. ‘You have to think about the success of all of us and to give a chance to the new government on the basis of the work done and new approaches to consolidate the society,’ he added.
After retiring from the post of Prime Minister Abrahamyan may lead the election headquarters of the Republican Party, which will prepare for the parliamentary elections of 2017, the Armenian media reported.
According to the same sources, the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan may appoint the former Yerevan Mayor, Karen Karapetyan, the new Prime Minister.
The resignation of the Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and several other government ministers is also expected. -02D-
