Alliance to defend political freedoms and condemned the arrests of Yagublu and Amiraslanov
Alliance to protect political freedoms (SAMA) has condemned the arrest of youth activist Nigar Yagublu, and the imprisonment of Ilham Amiraslanov, activist of "Kura" civil society.
Yagublu was arrested on September 10 on charges of traffic accidents, which caused a victim, and Amiraslanov September 12, was sentenced to two years in prison on trumped-up charges of illegal possession of weapons. The Alliance believes that both activists were arrested for political reasons, and by such steps the authorities want to restrict their activities.
The Alliance hoped that the Azerbaijani authorities will eliminate international commitments in the field of human rights and refuse the practice of making pressure on political opponents and civil society activists. The alliance also hopes that the authorities will remove unfair decisions by investigation and the court against Yagublu and Amiraslanov.
SAMA reminded that Amiraslanov was actively involved in the protection of rights of people affected by the floods in Kura in 2010, and fought against the misappropriation by officials the funds from the state budget allocated from the state budget for the payment of compensation.
