Arrests of People Opposing Concessions to Azerbaijan Started in Armenia
Yerevan / 20.06.16 / Turan-ArmInfo: One of the most ardent opponents of the Armenian authorities, the commander of the Shusha team during the first Karabakh war and Iranian citizen Zhirayr Sefilyan was arrested in Yerevan on charges of plotting to seize power today. According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, two submachine guns PL-74 and 120 cartridges were found in Sefilyan’s car.
It is established that the owner of the weapons is Sefilyan, who together with a group of people planned an armed seizure of buildings and communications, including the Yerevan TV tower. "For the implementation of this plan arms and ammunition were illegally acquired. Moreover, members of the group intended to implement the plan as early as the April war," the statement said.
In charge of the creation of an illegal armed formation Sefilyan was arrested. Eight other people charged with the acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition were also arrested. Several members of the group have given a confession.
Note that Sefilyan previously made public statements calling to start armed resistance to the authorities of Armenia, who "are willing to surrender Karabakh". It is noteworthy that similar accusations are also heard from other former Armenian military men.
Apparently, the Armenian authorities have decided to eliminate potential military opponents who disagree with the gradual settlement of the Karabakh conflict, which implies the liberation of the regions around Karabakh in the first stage.
In such a case, Sefilyan's arrest is just the first step, and soon the same fate will befall a number of influential military men and politicians in Armenia and Karabakh. -02D-
