Azerbaijan and France to Exchange Visits at Highest Level
Baku / 27.05.18 / Turan: Azerbaijan and France will exchange visits at the highest level. This was announced on May 27 after the negotiations in Baku between the heads of the foreign policy departments of Azerbaijan and France, Elmar Mammadyarov and Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will visit France in July 2018, Le Drian said. And at the end of this year, French President Emmanuel Macron will make an official visit to Baku. The French Minister called this an indicator of the importance attached by Paris to relations with Azerbaijan.
He also noted the great potential of Azerbaijan-France economic relations, including in the field of transport, ecology, agriculture, and high technologies. According to Le Drian, the creation of a special Azerbaijani-French commission is planned, which will discuss the prospects for bilateral economic relations.
"We discussed the establishment of industrial enterprises with the participation of French companies in industrial parks. More than 50 French companies work in Azerbaijan, and Baku Bus is also a French company," Mammadyarov said.
As the Azerbaijani Minister reminded, official Paris is the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group dealing with the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, and Baku expects that this mediation will be more effective and lead to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Le Drian, also noting France's efforts to resolve the Karabakh conflict, stressed that the current status quo is not a solution to the problem and cannot continue.
"We want peace and stability in the region, and we hope that in the coming months France's activities in this direction will strengthen for a peaceful solution of the problem," the French Foreign Minister said.
Touching upon the relations of Azerbaijan with the EU, Mammadyarov informed about the continuation of the process on the preparation of the agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan, noting "some progress" in this issue. Baku expects help from official Paris in this matter.
The French Minister was also received by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The sides stressed the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and France are successfully developing in the political, economic and other spheres,
French companies are successfully implementing a number of projects in Azerbaijan in the fields of transport, space industry, infrastructure, agriculture and others.
Also, issues of cooperation in the energy sector were discussed. The importance of implementing the Southern Gas Corridor and the successful cooperation of the SOCAR and Total companies was underlined.
Le Drian, referring to cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, noted with gratitude the opening of the Baku French Lyceum and the French-Azerbaijan University in Azerbaijan. -06B-
