Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Azerbaijani authorities to release Afgan Sadigov
Baku/05.11.20/Turan: "The Azerbaijani authorities should release the journalist Afgan Sadigov and drop all charges against him,” reads the statement by the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists in connection with the conviction of the head of the Azel TV Internet publication Afgan Sadigov to 7 years in prison.
On November 3, Sadigov was sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of extortion. He denied the charges and claimed he was being prosecuted for his professional activities. In protest, Sadigov went on a hunger strike on November 4. The defense will appeal. –16D-

On the evening of February 5, it was reported that journalist Shahnaz Beylargizi had been arrested. She had been a presenter on the Toplum TV channel for several years. After a criminal case was initiated against the channel in March 2024 and nearly all of its staff were arrested, Beylargizi was questioned multiple times.
