Fatullayev criticizes German democracy
Head of the NGO "For Human Rights", Eynulla Fatulalev, criticized the German Foreign Ministry and the human rights organization Amnesty International at today’s press conference.
He accused them of trying to prevent an international conference organized on 19 January in Brussels, which presented the results of research conducted by his NGO on human rights issues in Germany.
After the completion o f monitoring the German government became worried and had started to put "pressure" on the speakers, who were to speak at the conference.
In addition, according to Fatullayev, under the pressure of the government of Germany, the Amnesty International refused to cooperate with him.
Fatullayev also noted that the official Berlin concerned with criticism of Germany began to demand the disclosure of sources of funding for the project. Fatullayev said that in 2012, the budget of the NGO "For Human Rights" was 200 manat, and with such funds the financing the project was not difficult. At the same time, the funds for this project, 30,000 euros, were allocated by the Turkish Community in Germany, he said.
Fatullayev also said that he received from Amnesty International a warning that if he is imprisoned again, the organization will not defend him. "I spit on your democracy, I do not need such protection," said Fatullayev.
He noted that his conference in Brussels was covered by over 470 media outlets, including the German.
Fatullayev said he would demand an explanation from the Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
A representative of the German Embassy, Fredrik Hanke, who attended the press conference said that great importance is attached to freedom of expression in Germany. He said that the German government did not create problems for Fatullayev.
"We do not mind criticism of the German government, but Azerbaijan and Germany have different problems," said Hanke.
It is noteworthy, that the press conference of Fatullayev was covered by the pro-government media and TV channels, that used to ignore him, and even openly called him a traitor, and demanded his expel from the country and depriving a citizenship. -05C-
