French court cancels friendship agreement between Villeurbanne and Armenians of Shushi
Baku / 18.10.19 / Turan: On Friday the administrative court of Lyon canceled the friendship and fraternity agreement signed between the city of Villeurbanne with the municipality of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh - the separatist enclave of Azerbaijan, which has an Armenian majority, reported by the Press Press Agency on 18 October.
"The judges considered that this agreement was signed without taking into account France"s international obligations, and is contrary to the law," the court said.
This document, signed in 2015, was one of more than 10 agreements signed between the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh with various French municipalities and departments with self-proclaimed authorities Nagorno-Karabakh.
In recent months, French courts have canceled most of these treaties. -71B-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
