Human rights activist Rasul Jafarov spoke at Euromaidan
A civil society activist in Azerbaijan, head of the Human Rights Club Rasul Jafarov spoke in Kiev Euromaidan on December 17, expressing solidarity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Forces with supporters of the European integration of Ukraine.
Jafarov conveyed greetings from the imprisoned leader of the REAL movement Ilgar Mamedov. "Ilgar, like you, is fighting for the rights , equality , liberty, and the bright future of his country. Another civil society activist Anar Mammadli was arrested yesterday just for the fact that his organization monitored the October 9 presidential elections and criticized the official results .
That's what Ilgar and Anar were arrested and are just two examples from the list of 143 political prisoners in Azerbaijan , including journalists, bloggers , youth and religious activists," said Jafarov .
Expressing solidarity with Euromaidan, Jafarov condemned the use of force by the Ukrainian authorities in the frqace of the special force Berkut against peaceful demonstrators in Kiev. He urged the Ukrainian government to respect its international obligations and to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens .
