Human Rights Watch: Freedom to Members of NIDA!
The international human rights organization, Human Rights Watch, condemned the arrest of NIDA activists for taking part in the action on March 10.
In a statement by the organization it recalled that after the action the number of NIDA activists arrested rose to seven. All the detainees are users of Facebook and Twitter.
The HRW Organization for Eurasia representative, Rachel Denber said authorities are trying to silence the youth who protest, trying to intimidate other activists.
HRW note that in the past the authorities have attempted to intimidate the youth by planting drugs on them and falsifying charges.
Some of the detained members of NIDA manage the Facebook page of Heydar Aliyev. On this page, they put up cartoons with critical articles against the government.
Human Rights Watch notes that the detention of NIDA members violates their right to protection.
Human Rights Watch calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to release the seven activists and to cancel the charges against them. -16D04-
