Ilham Aliyev accused France of neocolonialism
Baku/02.03.23/Turan: Today there is an increasing trend towards neocolonialism in the world, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke at the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on Combating COVID-19 in Baku on Thursday.
"The Non-Aligned Movement, which emerged as a result of the historical process of decolonization, should unite its efforts in order to completely turn this shameful page in the history of mankind," Aliyev said.
The Non-Aligned Movement has always strongly supported the undisputed sovereignty of the Union of the Comoros over the island of Mayotte, which is still under French colonial rule.
With reference to the founding documents of the organization, Aliyev called on France to respect the rights of the people of New Caledonia and other peoples of the French overseas territories.
"The territories governed by France outside Europe are the disgusting remnants of the French colonial empire. We also call on France to apologize and acknowledge responsibility for its colonial past, bloody crimes and acts of genocide against the Non-Aligned Movement member countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and other regions," Aliyev said. -06B-
