J. Hasanli: Baghirzadeh Won Moral Victory over Government
The former presidential candidate of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) Jamil Hasanli strongly condemned the conviction of the theologian Taleh Bagirzadeh.
Visiting Turkey, Hasanli, on his Facebook page, called Baghirzadeh one of the most talented of the new generation of theologians.
He called condemnation of Baghirzadeh and his imprisonment for 2 years for possession of drugs "immoral step."
Condemnation of people with slanderous accusations is an insult to Islam. The arrests of believers on trumped-up charges show that the authorities are far from not only the law but also morality, Hasanli wrote.
He recalled the suicide of Kamran Seyidova, who was forced to give false testimony against Baghirzadeh.
"Even in the Soviet period, believers were not subjected to such immoral repression," said Hasanli.
Next Hasanli quoted Baghirzadeh's statement made ??in court:
"Today, regardless of religion and race, all are fighting for the rights... Young people are no longer intimidated by prison, and where there is no fear, there is common sense."
According to Hasanli, it is a sign of the beginning of a new stage in the history of Azerbaijan.
Baghirzadeh took the sentence with a smile, which was irony about the fate of the Azerbaijani authorities.
"It was Baghirzadeh's victory - a victory of humanity over the devil, believers over infidels, justice over despotism, healthy mind over sick mindset," Hasanli said.
Recall that Sabunchu Court on 1 November sentenced Baghirzadeh to 2 years in prison on charges of illegal possession of drugs. Baghirzadeh was arrested on March 31.
