Morningstar Condemned Film Innocent Muslims
The U.S. government has no relation to the film Innocent Muslims, said yesterday in an interview with journalists, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar. Repeating the words of the President and Secretary of State, Ambassador called the film "very vile and disgusting."
"We have made clear that the U.S. government does not have anything to do with this film. However, how disgusting and vile this movie may have been, nothing can justify violence." In Libya, because of this film people lost their lives. The death of demonstrators is also a tragedy. I cannot even find the words to express the extent of my indignation. But, once again I declare that no one can justify violence," he said.
However, Morningstar noted that America has a rich history and tradition of religious tolerance. "The right of everyone to practice their religion is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution," he said.
Yesterday, the Ambassador gave a reception at his residence for the graduates of American universities.
He reported that the American educational exchange programs will continue.
Commenting on the suspension of the program Muskie, the Ambassador expressed regret about this. "I am very sorry. At the same time, the U.S. continues to provide resources for other programs," said Morningtsar.
He also announced the suspension of the exchange program Junior Faculty Achievement for teens. But instead of this, additional resources will be given to the program Fulbright.
Morningstar believes that educational programs play an important role in the expansion of bilateral relations.
"Alumni are leaders in business, politics and culture of the two countries," said Morningstar.
He said that to date, the number of graduates of educational exchange programs between the U.S. and Azerbaijan are over 4 thousand. Every year, 150-200 Azerbaijanis are sent to study in the U.S. in exchange programs. From America to Azerbaijan 40-50 people come to study every year.
In total there are 15 exchange programs in secondary, higher and vocational education. -06D-
