NATO Secretary General congratulated Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova on the convergence with EU
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen made ??a congratulation to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova due to the outcome of the Eastern Partnership Summit and rapprochement with the EU.
"I welcome the results of the summit of" Eastern Partnership "in Vilnius. I congratulate Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova on the sovereign choice to make important steps in relations with the European Union with determination, courage and serious work," is said in the statement.
NATO shares and supports in their affiliate programs focus on the EU political association and economic integration. These processes, according to Rasmussen, promote "freedom, stability and prosperity in Europe."
At the same time the secretary general did not mention Ukraine, which did not sign the Association Agreement with the EU at the summit.
Moldova and Georgia on Friday at the summit of Eastern Partnership in Vilnius initialed the Association Agreement with the EU. The European Union expects to sign an agreement with them as early as possible next year. Moreover, within the EU summit an agreement was signed with Azerbaijan on visa facilitation, and with Georgia - on the participation of the latter in the operations of the EU crisis management.
The Eastern Partnership provides political and economic rapprochement of six post-Soviet states - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus - with the EU. The official start of the program proposed by the European Union on the initiative of Poland and Sweden was given in Prague, May 8, 2009. -02D-
