NCDF Begins Struggle for Liberation of Ali Kerimli
Baku / 18.11.18 / Turan: Police intervention in the ceremony of visiting the Alley of Martyrs by supporters of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) on November 17 was not only an illegal, but also immoral step. A visit to the graves of martyrs does not require permission from some state body. It is impossible to expect anything else from this corrupted power. This was stated at today's press conference by NCDF leader Jamil Hasanli in connection with the mass detention of opposition supporters who came to the Alley of Martyrs on the occasion of the National Revival Day.
According to him, the actions of the police were authorized by the political leadership of the country and personally by President Ilham Aliyev.
Hasanli recalled that he and the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli were among the detainees. They refused to write explanatory notes without the participation of their lawyers.
Hasanli was released around 23.00. Ali Kerimli and 7 more people remain in custody. According to Hasanli, the NCDF will protect Kerimli and other detainees with all legal means.
At the moment, Kerimli is charged with an administrative offense - a violation of the rules for holding meetings. On this charge, he may be released after a warning or a fine, or arrested for up to 2 months.
Hasanli believes the authorities have long been preparing provocations for the arrest of Kerimli. So, back in 2015, evidence against Kerimli and the NCDF was sought from those arrested for the Nardaran events. In addition, in 2016, after the failure of the attempted coup in Turkey, the authorities tried to link the PFPA and Kerimli with Fethullah Gülen. Then followed the arrests of the Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party Gezal Bayramly and the journalist Afgan Mukhtarly. In May of this year, a new case was opened on the so-called illegal financing of the PFPA, Hasanli continued.
If Kerimli is arrested, the NCDF will by all legal means seek his release and will launch a campaign, including social networks on the Internet.
Hasanli said that today at about 15.00 a lawyer should meet with Kerimli. Either today or on Monday, Kerimli will appear before the court. -06D--
