Politicians about "Gulargate"
Political parties and some public figures of the country widely commented on the online video with the MP Gular Ahmadova demanding from the rector of the International University Elshad Abdullayev a million dollars for electing him a deputy.
"Musavat" party says it is "a shock to the public." This video is clear proof that elections in Azerbaijan are rigged and the list of members is prepared in advance. The government includes people it wants onto the list, leaving no choice.
The party statement demanded that parliament be dissolve and to hold new and fair elections.
Chairman of the Democratic Party, Serdar Jalaloglu, believes some deputies come in to the parliament due to their "political suitability" qualifications and other due to corruption. It is not news that there is bargaining before elections.
"However, this video is fact, and requires a lawsuit to be filed," said Jalaloglu. He believes that rectors and business figures in the parliament are themselves sources of corruption. They get into parliament "by the method of Guler." "This proves not only the executive, but also legislative power is corrupt," said the Democratic Party chairman.
He reminded the recent cases of theft at the University of Languages, the rector of which is Samad Seyidov. " The situation in other schools is worse," said Jalaloglu.
Chairmans of the "Democratic reforms" party, MP Asim Mollazade, the party "Motherland", MP Fazail Agamali , the party "Umid", MP Iqbal Aghazadeh have not commened on the incident, shifting the responsibility on law enforcement agencies. Parliament Deputies from the party "Popular Front of United Azerbaijant" Gudrat Hasanguliyev and from the party "Great Creation", Fazil Mustafa, disconnected their phones. -05B04-
