Public Supports Zaur Gurbanli
Members of the Azerbaijan public are outraged with the arrest of the Nida civil movement activist and blogger Zaur Gurbanli.
Recall that Gurbanli was arrested on September 29 in front of his house and was sentenced to 15 days in jail for not obeying police. Meanwhile his apartment and workplace were searched and printed materials and a computer were seized.
Around 50 young people, including the composers Elmir Mirzoyev, Mubariz Azimli and Qurban Alekperov, the musicians Jamal Ali and Haji Hajiyev, and others launched a protest movement against the arrest of Gurbanli.
They stated that they will always be together with Nida, which is in the forefront of the struggle for a democratic future for Azerbaijan.
The youth organization of the Civil Solidarity Party of Azerbaijan has also condemned the arrest of Gurbanli. The statement points to the politically motivated and unlawful arrest of Gurbanli that was hidden from the family and community for two days.
The authors of the statement demanded the release of Gurbanli and other activists and required to stop repressions against supporters of democratic change. -05D-
