Residents of Washington - Unwitting Participants in Feast of Flowers
Today, many Americans will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, at an event organized by the Azerbaijan-American Alliance (AAA) in the National Park in Washington.
In the official declaration the Alliance does not say that the "Flower Day" was established in Azerbaijan as the birthday of the founder of the ruling regime in Azerbaijan, a former communist boss and KGB General Heydar Aliyev.
The Alliance argues that "the Flower Festival is celebrated in Azerbaijan for more than half a century in the beginning of May." The Flower Day allegedly marks the arrival of spring and the spirit of renewal.
The American Society of Azerbaijanis, AZAD said that every year on May 10, millions of dollars of state funds are spent on the purchase of exotic flowers and organizing various activities to mark the birthday of Aliyev. This is just one of many manifestations of the cult of personality around the figure of Heydar Aliyev, when officials at all levels are trying to outdo each other in holding events in honor of the "Dear Leader."
The Azerbaijani government spends considerable effort and large sums for the promotion of the cult of personality beyond the country's borders.
AAA is controlled by Anar Mammadov, son of the Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov, whose name is often mentioned in Wikileaks due to corruption scandals.
AAA is funded out of the empire ZQAN Holding. These tools allow them to spend time with U.S. officials, including House Speaker John Boehner, said AZAD. -02D-
