Rufat Safarov’s Mother Starts Hunger Strike
The mother of the ex-investigator of the Prosecutor's Office Rufat Safarov, who was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment, Tahira Safarova started a hunger strike on Friday. Turan was informed about this by the Safarov family.
Safarov's parents met with him in Prison No 9 on March 10.
"Rufat is in a bad condition. Apparently this is due to the use of torture against him, when he was imprisoned in the punishment cell," said one member of the family.
The mother of the former investigator, Tahira Safarova started a hunger strike in protest against the persecution and pressure on her son. She intends to continue her hunger strike until the torture against Safarov is stopped.
The mother of the convict will turn to the Azerbaijani people and international human rights organizations.
After transferring to the jail in January of this year, Safarov was already twice imprisoned in a punishment cell. The relatives fear that these measures of punishment are preparation of the ground for toughening the regime of Safarov's imprisonment and transferring him to the Gobustan prison.
Safarov's persecution began after he publicly criticized the negative phenomena in the law enforcement system. He was accused of taking bribes and was first sentenced to house arrest. However, he continued to criticize and eventually he was sentenced to 9 years in prison. -03B06-
