Situation with the arrests of state officials in Nakhchivan
Baku/28.11.22/Turan: The arrests of government officials in recent days in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic aroused the enthusiasm of the local population. People rejoice, hoping that these measures will not be half-hearted and will end with a change in the leadership of this region, local residents, told Turan reporting on the changes that began immediately after the arrest of officials from the Nakhchivan customs.
So, customs officers no longer require a bribe from those crossing the border from Turkey if their cargo exceeds 30 kg. Until now, people paid 25-50 manats for extra pounds, depending on what they imported (the bribe was higher for food).
At the same time, only one door out of seven is open at the Nakhchivan customs, and people are forced to stand idle for hours to go through customs control. To calls from citizens to open the rest of the doors, customs officers respond that they do not have enough employees.
Similar situation is on the Iranian border, where people are forced to carry their goods on their hands for two kilometers, since the Azerbaijani side removed the wheelbarrows that people used earlier. Nobody explains the reason for this. All these measures are being taken to restrict the import of products and goods from Turkey and Iran.
A monopoly reigns in Nakhchivan, compared to prices in Turkey and Iran, prices are much higher (2-3 times) and people are forced to go shopping. However, they can be imported only once a month, and all this is recorded by customs officers in a computer.
As for locally produced products, they are produced at the enterprises of local government officials, who control customs and all other structures. They are not interested in people buying cheap imports because their products are not for sale.
As for the top leadership of Nakhchivan, it is silent about the arrests of the leadership of the Customs and the Minister of Finance. The local population did not receive any explanation about this. ---02B---
