Thorbjørn Jagland: Azerbaijani caviar is a threat to PACE independence
“If it is true that the members of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE bribed their colleagues with black caviar, then it is absolutely unacceptable.” This dramatic statement was made at a press conference on Thursday, by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, answering journalists' questions.
According to him, "the Parliament, as well as its members, should be independent, autonomous and act on behalf of the organization, protecting its standards and values. Therefore, it is totally unacceptable. "
Speaking about the possibilities to investigate the circumstances of such cases, the secretary general said that he could not interfere in the work of PACE, because it is an independent body, he said.
In summer this year a group of PACE members prepared a special report on the facts of bribery their colleagues on the part of the Azerbaijani delegation. -04С-
