Three Turkish ministers resigned, and call Erdogan and leave
Two Turkish ministers resigned because their sons were arrested on charges of corruption, Turkish media reported.
First, it became known about the resignation of Economy Minister, Zafer Caglayan, and a few minutes later, about the dismissal of the Interior Minister, Muammer Guler. "I am leaving my post to allow shed light to the sordid operation carried out against our government," Caglayan said.
The statement was made a few hours before the return of Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, from his trip to Pakistan.
Some time later resigned the Minister of Environment and Urban Planning, Erdogan Bayraktar , whose son was also detained. Announcing the resignation, the minister called on the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also to resign.
The dismissal of ministers took place shortly after Prime Minister Erdogan held a meeting with President, Abdullah Gul. During the meeting, the leaders agreed that Erdogan will replace the government, but nothing was announced about the details of the agreement.
The children of senior officials were arrested on December 21. Total of 24 people are accused of theft , embezzlement, and other facts of corruption. Among the defendants were the sons of Guler and Caglayan, while the son of Bayraktar avoided the arrest, he was only interrogated.
Erdogan reacted very painfully to the anti-corruption investigation, and regarded it a hostile attack of forces that are preparing an "international conspiracy" against Turkey. Before the defendants were charged, Erdogan ordered to dismiss the heads of the Istanbul police, who were involved in the detention of suspects. Meanwhile, the opposition, which has supported the investigation, on the contrary, demanded the resignation of the ministers whose children are suspected of wrongdoing.
On December 24 representatives of the opposition Republican People's Party, during a special press conference, called on the ministers involved of a corruption scandal , to resign. On December 22 a march was held in Istanbul in support of the fight against corruption and arrests of officials involved in the case. The action was attended by about 10,000 people, the police dispersed the demonstrators with tear gas and water cannons. -02D-
