"Umid" Party: Stop the Repression
The "Umid" party accused the government of Azerbaijan of aggravating the political situation after the presidential election.
Before the elections, the government arrested a number of political activists on various charges in order to distance them from participation in public life. Moreover, after the election, instead of reconciliation in society and conducting political reforms, the government has aggravated the situation, the statement said.
Today, courts have turned into an arena of political frame-up trial. On concocted charges NIDA activists Ilgar Mammadov, Tofig Yagublu, Gurban Mammadov, Thale Bagirzade, Yadigar Sadygov have been arrested, according to a statement released by the movement.
"Umid" calls on authorities not to escalate tensions, to comply with international obligations in the field of human rights, to stop politically motivated arrests, to end political courts, to release arrested activists and to objectively investigate these cases. –06D--
