Western diplomats condemn violence against Azerbaijani captive in Armenia
Baku/14.04.23/Turan: "The United States is concerned about video footage capturing violence against an Azerbaijani soldier in Armenia.
We urge Azerbaijan and Armenia to resolve all outstanding issues through peaceful negotiations," the US Embassy said in a post on its facebook account.
British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Ould called the footage of violence against the Azerbaijani soldier appalling.
"It is appalling to see video footage circulating of violence against an Azerbaijani soldier. Such treatment is unacceptable under international humanitarian law.
Such cases must be condemned to achieve sustainable peace in the region," the Ambassador wrote on Twitter.
The head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Mihalko also expressed his attitude towards the footage of the Azerbaijani soldier being abused.
He called the mistreatment in the video of the detained Azerbaijani soldier deplorable. "It is important that all detainees are treated in accordance with international humanitarian law," he wrote on Twitter. -16D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
