Ali Insanov: No threat will make me give up the fight
On Thursday the Supreme Court chaired by Inglab Nasirov dismissed the appeal of former Health Minister Ali Insanov to re-conviction. According to lawyer Togrul Babayev, Insanov, behold filing a cassation appeal in May 2015, without any legal grounds it was considered only after 13 months.
"Despite the fact that on November 15, 2013 the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan on the basis of the ECHR verdict, overturned the decision of Azerbaijani courts in the case of Insanov, the Court of Appeal is still convicted, and the Supreme Court today upheld it," said the lawyer.
Insanov himself through his lawyers gave the following statement: "It not compatible with logic, illegal, openly political decision makes illegal the judicial system of Azerbaijan. The authorities persistently deny they have adopted the international instruments forming a negative image of Azerbaijan. However, no political, legal and physical threats are able to makeme give up the fight. I will return again to the European Court of Human Rights," summed Insanov.
* Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of attempting a coup, but later he was sentenced to 11 years for corruption, abuse of power and other economic crimes. Meanwhile, human rights organizations recognized Insanov as a political prisoners. On March 14, 2013 the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of the rights of Insanov to a fair trial.
