Allegations of Azadlig Obtaining Money from Officials - Lie
The deputy chief editor of the newspaper Azadlig Sujaddin Sharifov has denied reports that he had received money from the officials for the paper.
“This is a slander against me and the newspaper Azadlig. All those reports are nonsense. I regard it as an insult. I've never met or had contact with any official. As a journalist all my actions are in the framework of the law,” Sharifov told Turan, commenting on the publication on the website www.haqqin.az of Eynullah Fatullayev.
This site claims to have sensational facts of bribing of the opposition media, including the leading opposition newspaper Azadlig and the eponymous website, by the officials.
The publication claims that officials transferred large sums of money to Sharifov in return for assurances that they will not be criticized.
Sharifov told Turan he would appeal to the law enforcement authorities to investigate the libelous publications. He will also appeal to the Press Council. -03B-
