Azerbaijani Parliament adopted on Tuesday amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences to punish the import, sale and production of genetically modified organisms (GMOs.) Import, sale and production of GMOs will be punished by a fine in the amount of 3000 – 5000 manat, or imprisonment up to two years. For the intentional use of GMOs is a penalty of 4000 – 6000 manat, or up to three years in prison.
During the import, sale and production of GMOs on a large scale is introduced a penalty of 7000 - 9000 manat, or imprisonment up to five years. The amendments were initiated and prepared by the Research Institute for Human Rights of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (AMEA) in 2014.-0-

As part of the struggle against illegal migration in Baku city, operative actions were carried out at different addresses. The Interior Ministry reports that employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Migration identified and detained 34 foreigners without documents giving the right to reside and stay on the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the operation of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 5 members of an organized group engaged in drug trafficking were detained. All of them have previous convictions: Bahlul Ismayilov, Royal Aliyev, Khayal Aliyev, Samir Aghayev, and Ali Mammadli.
