Azerbaijan will celebrate the International Day Against Impunity
Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) intends to mark November 23 International Day Against Impunity by visiting graves of the publicist Rafiq Tagi, and to hold a round table on the theme: "The time has come to put an end to impunity."
International Day Against Impunity is celebrated since 2011 at the initiative of IFEX, a global network of organizations that protect the right to freedom of expression. The day began celebrating after the massacre in the Philippine town of Ampatuan in 2009, when 32 journalists and media workers were killed. The purpose of the event was to achieve justice for those who are persecuted for the freedom of expression.
IRFS calls on all those who support freedom of the press to join the demands to the government of Azerbaijan: to put an end to impunity against killers of journalists and those who makes physical pressure on them, to reveal all the crimes against journalists, and to bring to justice all guilty, to punish the masterminds and perpetrators of the killers of Elmar Huseynov, the editor of the magazine "Monitor" in March 2005, and journalist Rafiq Tagi in November 2011; to provide information about the investigation; to arrest persons who blackmailed and threatened journalist Khadija Ismayilova in March 2012; to investigate cases of intimidation of journalists and provide their defense.
On November 23 from 12:00 to 13:00 a roundtable on these themes, and at 14:00 they will visit the grave of Rafiq Tagi.–06D—
