The August 11 earthquake in Iran has become a national tragedy, said a Board member of the Turkic Social Organization, Firudin Jalilov.
Speaking at a press conference in the Media center, he recalled that in the province of East Azerbaijan over three days there were 930 aftershocks, affecting 200 villages, of which 66 were completely destroyed.
According to official figures, 120,000 people were injured, more than 300 people were killed and more than two thousand were wounded. However, in reality the number of victims is more than five thousand, but the authorities have carefully concealed the real statistics, said Jalilov.
He also said that Iran does not accept foreign aid, which is a measure of the attitude of the "chauvinistic Iranian regime to Azerbaijanis."
He also said that the earthquake near Tabriz was by no means natural. It is likely that the tremors had an artificial origin. Maybe that's why Iran does not allow foreign aid into the country.
Jalilov accused Azerbaijani television and government of ignoring the tragedy in South Azerbaijan. He described as "immoral" the actions of the local TV, which continues to show entertaining programs.
Likewise, the government of Azerbaijan did not respond to the tragedy, although ethnic Azeris are affected by the earthquake.
A member of the Board of this organization, Ainur Imranova reported that through Facebook they were able to raise money of 10,000 manat. "We will try to give the money to the activists of South Azerbaijan. We are denied providing other assistance - they say we can only send milk for children. There is an acute shortage of donor blood, which is difficult to deliver in such a heat."
The organization sent an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev, calling him not to be indifferent, and to provide effective assistance to our brothers in South Azerbaijan. -04C-
