Businessmen from Nakhchivan are accused of attacking a customs
Sadarak District Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) arrested for two months a businessman Mohammed Gurbanov and his son-in-law, Nadir Mamedov Gurbanov. They are charged with the attack on the authorities on December 8 at the customs checkpoint "Sadarak."
Mamedov is charged under the Article 315.1 (resistance to authority by force) and 315.2 of the Criminal Code (resistance to authority by force, a threat to life and health.) Gurbanov is charged under the first article.
According to Turan regional correspondent, native prisoners were not notified about the court trial. Despite their insistence, state-appointed lawyers Adil Asadov and Alekper Jafarov not want to write appeals.
On December 8 Gurbanov imported from Turkey three tons of food, and was detained at customs. Customs officers demanded a bribe, but Gurbanov refused to give a bribe, and therefore his goods were seized.
He appealed to local journalists for help, but customs officers attacked journalists and severely beat Gurbanov and Mamedov.
The journalists Ilgar Nasibov and Elman Abbasov were also subjected to physical pressure; on December 8 Gurbanov and Mamedov were taken to police office. -05D06-
