Chief Executives are summoned to courts

Four trials on claims  of 21 affected by floods in 2010 in the Kura Valley took place in  the Court of Appeal of Shirvan city under the chairmanship of Rafael Eyvazov and Ilham Amiraliev.

The lawsuits were filed against the  Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES) due to non-implementation of the orders of the government to provide financial assistance to the  flood victims. The plaintiffs  represented  Imishli, Sabirabad, Saatli, Salyan and Kurdamir districts.

Representative of MES, Vugar Hajiyev, told the court that the problems of people should be solved by the Chief Executives, at the same time, he argued that the  MES "continues to study the situation."

At the request of a lawyer Fariz Namazly  an coordinator  of civil society "Kura", Oktay Gyulalyev, the  judges decided to invite to the next meeting the heads of executive powers  of these areas.

The defense also requested  to examine the flood-affected homes, which  the MES believes beyond repair. The Court agreed to consider the matter at their next  trials, on November  5 and 14.

One hundred thirty complaints were made against the MES, and 28 of them were  granted by the courts.

* In the 2010 flood affected eight  regions. More than 100 hectares of land were flooded and 20,000 homes were destroyed. The government allocated about 500 million manat for the restoration of affected areas. However, staff of civil society "Kura" documented numerous cases of corruption and embezzlement of state funds, most of which were embezzled. The MES is responsible for the liquidation of the flood consequences, but it refused to provide data on the issue of monetary compensation, the constructed houses, and estimates of works.—0—
